Location

St Patrice is located a mile north of the river Loire 5 miles west of Langeais with its famous château and 10 miles east of the medieval market town of Bourgeuil - famous for its red wine. The house is ideally located for wine tasting, country walks and châteaux visiting.

The village
St Patrice has a bar/tabac together with a post office and a garage. In addition there is a butchers/general store that opens most afternoons.

Shopping
There are a number of supermarkets at Bourgeuil and Langeais both of which are 15 minutes away by car.

Swimming
There is an indoor heated pool at Avoine 15 minutes drive away. Alternatively there are several small lakes in the forest, which have man-made sandy beaches suitable for swimming.

Restaurants
Langeais (5 miles) has several restaurants ranging from budget to gourmet. Bourgeuil (10 miles) has several restaurants too. In addition to the above there are half a dozen restaurants within 15 minutes drive including

How to get there

By car
St Patrice is approximately 180 miles from St Malo and Caen, 250 miles from Cherbourg and Le Havre and 350 miles from Calais. Motorway connections from Nantes and Angers in the west and Tours to the east extend to Bourgeuil and Langeais respectively via the newly opened A85 autoroute. Paris is approximately 150 miles away by motorway (junction 24 off the A 10 approximately 30 miles away via the A85).

By train
Tours, 20 miles to the east, has a mainline TGV station with trains to Paris taking just an hour. From Paris there are regular Euro star connections. St Patrice itself has a railway station, which connects to Tours, Saumur and Nantes.

By air
The nearest major airports are Paris, (Orly and Charles de Gaulle) and Nantes. There is also a small airport at Tours, served by Ryanair, with daily flights to Stansted.

Places of interest

Local attractions include:

Langeais (5 miles) with its château and famous porcelain collection.

Bourgeuil (10 miles) a market town, being the centre of the famous Bourgeuil red wine, with a 16th century abbey.

Chinon (15 miles) an attractive medieval town with its ruined Château and atmospheric streets.

Château of Villandry (10 miles) famous for its beautiful formal gardens.

Château of Usse (10 miles) the fairytale château that was the inspiration for the ‘sleepingbeauty’ story.

Azay-le-rideau (10 miles) an attractive medieval town with an extremely pretty Château on a river.

Saumur Famous for its château and home to the french cavalry as well as several museums.

Tours (20 miles) a large progressive city with stylish shops and a charming old town.

Other châteaux within an hour’s drive include Chenonceaux, Blois and Angers.
